Coach Ronnie Arrow

Growing up in Texas I loved playing basketball and was fortunate enough to earn a basketball scholarship to Southwest Texas State where I made the All-Conference team in my final two seasons.
Upon graduating, I immediately got into coaching and, after serving for several years as an assistant coach at Sam Houston State, was named the head coach at San Jacinto Junior College in 1977.
While at San Jacinto, we won 10 Texas Junior College Athletic Conference titles and 3 National Junior College championships. I was honored to be named Conference Coach-of-the-Year on four occasions as well as national Coach-of-the-Year in 1983 and 1986.
In 1987 I was hired by the University of South Alabama. Competing in the Sun Belt Conference, we won two conference titles and, in the 1989 NCAA tournament, defeated in-state rival Alabama in dramatic fashion before losing to eventual national champion, Michigan. Final rankings for that year landed us in the top 25.
In 1998 I was chosen to start the basketball program at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi and stayed there for ten seasons before returning to South Alabama.
In 2012 I decided to retire from coaching at the college level so that I could devote more time to my family and to teaching the fundamentals of our great game to the younger generation.
Interestingly, although I have been blessed to have coached some incredibly talented players at the collegiate level – several who have gone on to play in the NBA – I get more of a thrill from watching a young player work hard to develop his/her skills.
If you know someone who loves the game of basketball and is willing to work hard to become the best that they can be, give me a call and let’s get them in “the classroom.” After all, great players are made, not born.
